If you are visiting Hawaiian islands, remember to pack a mineral-based reef safe sunscreen. Beginning January 1, 2023 it will be unlawful in Hawaii to sell or distribute avobenzone and/or octocrylene.
This ban builds upon the previous 2018 legislation (SB2571) which prohibited the distribution of sunscreens containing the chemicals oxybenzone and octinoxate that scientists have found contribute to coral bleaching when washed off in the ocean.
